Whoa! This scuba diver stumbled upon a sponge coral in mana Vizag!

Visakhapatnam could be the next scuba diving spot that people would love to throng to after Andamans. This can happen in just a year…” says an excited scuba diver and adventure enthusiast Balaram Naidu, who recently discovered a coral in the sea during one of his dives in Vizag. “The coral I discovered is a sponge coral and as you can see (in the picture), there’s a lion fish living inside it. Given a chance, scuba tourism in Visakhapatnam could thrive. The possibilities are endless!” adds Balaram.

The discovery of a coral in the sea signifies the possibility of a diverse underwater eco-system. Coral reefs are essential to the sea, as they provide the much-needed habitat for fish and other sea animals.

While coral reefs are under threat due to rising temperatures and human impact, scuba divers around the world love to dive and look for coral reefs because they hold rich marine life in and around them, providing a melange of colours.
