In a tragic incident, an Army aspirant was killed on Monday after he came in contact with a low-hanging high-tension electricity wire in Hyderabad. The incident took place in the city’s Moula Ali area and the deceased was identified as 19-year-old Aravind from Telangana’s Wanaparthy district, a degree student.
The police said that Aravind came in contact in the wire when he had gone to relieve himself in some bushes nearby while waiting for his turn at a recruitment rally taking place at the Territorial Army’s Railway Engineer Regiment. He died on the spot.
“Because of the darkness and thick fog, Aravind could not see the wire. There was a loud noise followed by a flash where Aravind was walking. The wire hit his throat. His body was flung in the air and his left leg also came in contact with the wire,” Ramanjaneyulu, a friend of Aravind’s, who was with the group was quoted as saying.
Upon learning of the incident, Aravind’s parents and kin rushed to the city. His body was shifted to the state-run Gandhi hospital for an autopsy, following which it was handed over to his family members.
Based on a complaint by the youngster’s family, the Malkajgiri police registered a case under Section 304 A (Causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). They said that further investigation was underway as they were trying to ascertain if it was lapses on part of the Electricity Board or the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) which caused the mishap.
Meanwhile, it was also highlighted that thousands of aspirants from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and other states, had no option but to sleep on the pavement near the recruitment centre even as Hyderabad experienced a freezing night, as they had no other alternative.

However, Army officials said that they had made all necessary arrangements inside the venue once the recruitment drive began but aspirants had lined up early in the morning.
